Life is a woven tapestry of experiences, emotions, thoughts, and delicate whispers, sometimes shouts, from within, telling us where to go on our journey. There are many words related to life to describe the parts of the whole, but here’s a short list dedicated to the things we try to shape and, in turn, shape us.

Liveliness
Liveliness is the pulse that quickens our existence and the vibrant energy that animates our days, turning mundane routines upside down. Imagine the sparkle in someone’s eye when they talk about their passion, a funny story, or just taking a simple moment like drinking their favorite cup of coffee.
Liveliness is what reminds us that there’s an opportunity to remember the magic that being alive brings beyond the chaos, boredom, and depression that living in the world tries to impose upon us.
Vivacity
Both liveliness and vivacity share a sense of energy, but there are subtle differences. Liveliness is a state of being full of life and spirited, and it is about the overall sense of enthusiasm that characterizes a person. At the same time, vivacity has to do with the person’s temperament.
Vivacity isn’t just about existing; it’s about living, embracing each moment where passion, energy, and the rhythm of life create a personal symphony that turns ordinary days into extraordinary moments. It’s the child on the swings, yearning for higher, higher, higher, so they can experience the rush of what it feels like to fly. It’s the kitten pouncing excitedly at its favorite toy.
Lifetime
Find a stopwatch or a timer, snap your fingers with each second, and observe how the action makes you feel and what that quieter part of your mind thinks.
Our lifetimes are made up of the never-ending passing of seconds that allow us to create the ultimate choose-your-own-adventure story. From the first page with the first breath to the last breath, our lives are filled with plot twists and character development (hopefully) and are interwoven with laughter, tears, heartbreak, adventures, and quiet moments.
Experience
Experience is our own personal teacher that shapes us into who we are. It doesn’t just include the milestones; it also consists of the unpredictable, messy journey in between and is the soundtrack of our existence or the textures and flavors of our food.
Experiences aren’t always positive, but they add layers to our evolving narrative. Whether we stumble, soar, hide, or sit back and let life happen, we’re crafting the story of our existence without realizing it.
Experience lets us know, even if we’re not ready to hear it, that it’s time to move on from a relationship, that we want to move elsewhere, that now is the right time to go back to school, or even that this person is the right one for us.
Fulfillment
Fulfillment isn’t just about ticking off a to-do list; it’s about finding that sweet spot where joy harmonizes with purpose and feeling a sense of contentment in the doing.
Whether it relates to what you do at work, personal pursuits, or relationships, it’s something that resonates with your soul and makes you realize that this is exactly what you’re meant to be doing or where you’re meant to be. Not everyone finds the same thing fulfilling for them.
Resilience
Think about somebody jumping on a bed or a trampoline, bouncing higher and higher. Now, think about that same person jumping down on a concrete floor. They don’t bounce back up, right?
Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks and helps you stand tall amidst life’s storms. It isn’t about avoiding what comes at you; it’s about absorbing the experiences, learning from them, pushing forward, and turning each adversity into an opportunity for growth.
Are you faced with having to accept a job position you don’t want to take? That is understandable, but what if that company has a tuition program with a college or university? You can use the opportunity provided by the job to gain the skills and education you need to pursue something that you do want.
Unpredictable
Life is the ultimate improv show; just when you think you have things figured out, twists and turns appear, leaving you scratching your head, knocking on your feet, or leaving you in awe.
This whimsical dance of chaos and order has no map, keeping us on our toes and allowing us only to create a plan to follow, but one that we must change regularly.
Job interviewers often ask, “Where do you see yourself in five years?” Sure, you can decide where you want to be in five years and work toward that goal, but where will you actually be in five years? Avoiding the unpredictable in life denies us opportunities for personal growth and risks, creating a life of just existing.
