Vogue

You might associate this word with the high-end fashion magazine with the same name. However, vogue, which is a noun, can be a prevailing style during a specific period. For instance, in the 70s, what was in vogue were maxi dresses and bell-bottom pants, but in the 40s, the trend was shirt dresses.

Fabric

Whether you are wearing bedwear or formal attire, they have one thing in common: they’re made from fabric. There are different types of fabric that can affect comfort and the style you want to achieve. For instance, if you are after a rebel-inspired style, opting for a leather jacket over cotton can definitely complete your look.

Fad

Here’s another word related to fashion that you might be familiar with already. The word “fad” is any clothing, accessory, or style people

are highly enthusiastic about but only for a short time. For instance, everybody wore ripped jeans during the 80s but eventually sizzled out when hard rock/heavy metal era ended.

Jeans

Take a look at your wardrobe. How many pairs of jeans do you own? Two? Three? Jeans are a staple for many and, in fact, have been a part of the fashion world since the late 1800s

Traditionally, jeans have a front zipper, a back yoke, five pockets, and five belt loops. Denim is the original material. However, there have been a lot of transitions over the years, such as zippers in the back, stretchy materials that eliminate buttons and zippers, and a vast array of styles, such as bell bottoms and skinny jeans.

Accessories

Accessories accentuate and complete an outfit. Some accessories are timeless, such as pearl or diamond earrings, while others, like oversized sunglasses and chunky jewelry, come and go.

Fashion Cycle

As its name suggests, this word related to fashion describes a cycle that trends follow. This cycle begins with introducing the trend to the masses via influencers or fashion designers. Next, the trend’s popularity rises. You see it everywhere, from billboards to the people you run into at the local coffee shop. Then, the trend peaks and is at its highest demand. The last two stages are the decline, where the trend fades and eventually becomes a thing of the past.

Apparel

Apparel is what you wear from head to toe – basically, anything that covers your body. It can be your shoes, pants, or shirt. Even accessories like scarves and hats can be considered apparel.

Catwalk

Fashion shows wouldn’t be complete without a catwalk. It is an extended stage for models to walk on and flaunt a fashion designer’s latest creations. Think of it as a runway for models!

Smart-Casual

Smart-casual is a dress code that strikes a balance between business wear and casual clothing. For example, you might create an outfit using a pair of tailored jeans with a form-fitting T-shirt and a blazer. The outfit is appropriate for the office, and you can also wear it for a night out with friends. Smart-casual allows you to dress in a formal way while still maintaining a high level of comfort. The key is clothing that has a clean look and fits you appropriately.

Couturier

Couturiers are fashion designers working one-on-one with clients, ensuring the clothes they create are a perfect fit for your body and are based on your specific requirements. You can think of them as someone who makes made-to-order garments.

Fashion House

What do Armani, Gucci, and Luis Vuitton have one thing in common, aside from their expensive prices? Well, they are one of the biggest fashion houses! Any company producing and selling high-end luxury items (clothing or accessories) is a fashion house.
