Strawberry Shortcake

Starting off our list is the strawberry shortcake. This dessert is a delicious combo of fresh strawberries, whipped cream frosting, and soft biscuits. Assembling it is also fun and easy! You start off with soft biscuits, next the strawberries, and then the whipped cream. Repeat the process until you are happy with the height.

Fun Fact: Some recipes swap the biscuits with cake.

Soufflé

The soufflé is an irresistible dessert known for its airy, light texture. You can make it by folding whipped egg whites into a flavored base, like fruit, chocolate, or vanilla, and then baking it until the mixture rises. If you follow those steps, you’ll end with a soft, delicate dessert with a texture that feels almost cloud-like.

Fun Fact: Its name comes from the French word souffler, which means “to puff” or “to blow”.

Shrikhand

If you love creamy desserts with a bit of tang, you should give shrikhand a try. This Indian dessert is made by straining yogurt until it becomes really thick. It is then mixed with sugar, saffron, and cardamom. The result? A sweet, velvety dessert with a harmonious balance of sweetness and tanginess, with a dash of fragrance from the spices.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

If you are a sucker for gooey desserts, try a sticky toffee pudding! This dessert is made with a soft sponge cake containing chopped dates. A warm toffee sauce made with butter, sugar, and cream envelopes the cake, adding extra sweetness and gooeyness. And yes, each bite is moist, sweet, and packed with deep caramel flavor.

This British dessert is usually served warm with vanilla ice cream or custard.

Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies are one of the easiest yet most delightful desserts you can bake at home. The dough is just a mix of butter, sugar, flour, eggs, and a touch of vanilla, creating a soft cookie with a light, sweet flavor. You can roll the dough out and cut it into shapes or bake it as round cookies. Some people decorate them with icing or sprinkles.

Sorbet

If you want something refreshing and juicy instead of creamy, the sorbet might be your choice. This frozen dessert is made from fruit puree, sugar, and water. And yes, it doesn’t have dairy! You’ll find a wide variety of flavors, such as lemon, mango, raspberry, and passion fruit.

Shahi Tukda

Shahi tukda is an Indian dessert. So, what makes it special? Well, bread slices soaked in sweet cardamom-sugar syrup are fried, and then poured with a generous amount of delicious, thick, and creamy Rabri (saffron milk). For extra crunch and garnishing, pistachios or almonds are added.

Fun Fact: “Shahi” means royal in English.

Sponge Cake

If you like light and fluffy desserts, sponge cake is an Italian classic you should have. It is used as a base for different layered desserts with cream, fruit, or jam because of its light, spongy texture. And yes, it also absorbs liquids very well.

Scones

Scones can be savory or sweet. But how do you achieve its soft, crumbly texture without it drying out, you ask? Don’t overwork the dough and make sure that the ingredients (especially the butter) are extremely cold.  You can eat scones plain or have them with jam and clotted cream.

Fun Fact: Scones originated in Scotland

Sundae

A sundae is a timeless dessert that you can easily customize with different toppings and sauces. You can drizzle it with chocolate, butterscotch, or caramel, or add marshmallows, whipped cream, nuts, sprinkles, or a cherry on top.

Fun Fact: This dessert, which starts with S, was invented in 1892

S’mores are a classic campfire treat featuring graham crackers sandwiching marshmallows and chocolate. No bonfire or campfire? Well, you can always make s’mores cookies! This version has the same gooey, sweet mixture and tastes like regular s’mores.

Strudel

The strudel is an Austrian pastry dessert. You create it by stretching the dough until it is paper-thin, then you put cubed apples and ground hazelnuts, and sprinkle it with sugar, cinnamon, salt, and lemon zest. Then, you roll the dough and bake it in the oven. It is usually served warm with cream or powdered sugar.
