Affogato

Don’t know whether you should have coffee or dessert after a meal? Well, why not both! The affogato, a well-loved Italian dessert, is essentially a scoop of vanilla-flavored gelato or ice cream with a shot of espresso! Some variations have shaved dark chocolate, while others have a dash of liquor (like amaretto or rum) for an extra kick.

Apple Pie

Of course, part of this list is the apple pie! This classic dessert features cinnamon-spiced apples baked in a flaky crust. Here’s a fun fact: Apple pie is not an American dish. Its origin traces back to medieval England, and the iconic lattice crust? You can thank the Dutch.

Apple Fritters

What do you get when you coat chopped apples in a batter spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, then fry them until golden and crisp on the outside? You get apple fritters, of course. Some recipes drizzle this easy-to-make dessert with a sweet vanilla glaze, while others use powdered sugar or confectionery sugar.

Tip: If you want a crispy outside and a fluff inside, keep the oil at 350°F.

Almond Jelly

Almond jelly is a light, subtly sweet East Asian dessert that’s smooth and wobbly,  almost like a softer panna cotta. You can make this at home by combining almond-flavored milk, almond extract, agar agar (or gelatin), and sugar.

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Avocado and chocolate may seem like an odd pairing. But, believe it or not, these two ingredients are great together, especially when made into a mousse.

Just grab some ripe avocados and blend them with cocoa powder, sweetener, and milk until they turn silky smooth. You’ll end up with a dense, chocolatey dessert, healthier than non-vegan mousse, and finished in a few minutes with no baking.

Ashure (Noah’s Pudding)

The words “nutritious” and “dessert” don’t always go hand in hand. But Ashure’s blend of legumes, dried fruits, nuts, and sugar makes it a healthier option than most desserts. So, what is it exactly? Well, it’s a pudding typically made in large quantities and shared with others.

Anzac Biscuits

Anzac biscuits are crunchy oat-and-golden-syrup coconut cookies. What makes these different from other cookies? Well, it doesn’t need to have eggs.

Angel Wing Biscuits

These are thin dough strips twisted into wing-like shapes, and then deep-fried until crispy and dusted with powdered sugar. These delicate and delicious Christmas cookies are also known as  Chruściki, Krusciki, or Faworki.

Anmitsu

The Anmitsu dessert is traditionally from Japan. It is served with sweet red bean paste, fresh fruit, and cubes of agar jelly. In some recipes, it can have a scoop of ice cream, a mochi on top, or a drizzle of brown sugar syrup.

Ambrosia Salad

Colorful and tasty, the Ambrosia salad is a chilled dessert made with canned fruit, mini marshmallows, and whipped topping. It is also easy to make – you just fold the ingredients together and refrigerate until set and creamy.

Arctic Roll

The Arctic Roll is a British favorite made with vanilla ice cream and strawberry sauce, wrapped in a sponge cake. If you want to make one at home, make sure you spread the cake batter thinly before baking. Once it is cooked and at room temperature, add the softened ice cream and sauce, roll it, and refrigerate.
