Lecture

When an instructor speaks to a class, sharing ideas and facts, it’s called a lecture. These talks are often formal, with the instructor speaking most of the time. However, they can ask questions or assign tasks to students.

Graduate

After you finish school, you become a graduate. A graduation ceremony is usually held to celebrate the occasion, where students wear togas and graduation caps and receive their diplomas on stage.

Thesis

When you get to college, you’re required to write a thesis paper which you will defend in front of a panel. This is a much lengthier version of a regular essay, which contains in-depth research on a subject.

Teachers

Any list of education vocabulary wouldn’t be complete without the word “teachers.” Teachers are responsible for helping you learn a particular subject like math, science, or arts. They also grade you and give assignments.

Diploma

After you finish a course of study, you’re given a diploma. This paper includes your name, your school’s name, and the course you’ve completed. It also features the principal’s signature and the school’s official seal.

Principal

A principal is the head of a school or training organization. This person oversees the entire school, from hiring to firing teachers and approving the school calendar to school budget management. Student Loan

A student loan is for students that can’t afford to go to college or a university. This loan covers tuition fees, on or off-campus housing, and other school-related expenses. You do not need to repay the loan while you are still studying. However, once you graduate, you must pay the principal (the initial borrowed amount) plus interest.

Bachelor’s Degree

When you earn a bachelor’s degree, it means you’ve finished four years of college. In the United States, you’ll often come across three degrees: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), and Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A). Each degree offers different majors or subjects. For instance, for Bachelor of Arts, you can major in journalism.

Tutor

Hiring a tutor can help you overcome academic challenges. Tutors provide one-on-one lectures personalized to your learning level instead of a typical classroom setting. They also do not give you grades and are not typically employed in a school.

Campus

The word “campus” is where you attend school. Depending on the school’s size, a campus can include student housing, a separate library building, convention halls, a football field, a swimming pool, and other facilities.
