About David Baldacci

David Baldacci was born on August 5, 1960 in Richmond, Virginia, to a trucking foreman father and paralegal mother. His love of storytelling began in childhood with numerous visits to the local public library. Due to his imaginative nature, Baldacci's mother gave him a notebook to start recording his stories. Subsequently, he spent the next two decades writing short stories, novels, and screenplays. Unfortunately, Baldacci's early writings weren't as successful as his later works. While he continued to pen stories as a hobby, Baldacci attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he earned a B.A. in Political Science. Afterwards, he was accepted into the University of Virginia School of Law. He eventually graduated from law school with a J.D. and went on to practice law in Washington, D.C. For the next nine years, Baldacci made a name for himself as a professional trial and corporate lawyer. He never lost his passion for writing, however. He finally published his first novel, "Absolute Power," in 1996, which became an immediate bestseller. It won numerous awards, including the Gold Medal Award for Mystery/Thriller by the Southern Writers Guild. His debut was swiftly followed by a film adaptation starring Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman and the bestselling sophomore novel, "Total Control," both of which were released in 1997. From then on, David Baldacci has enjoyed a career as a successful author, screenwriter, and television producer. Along with his work in publishing and television, Baldacci is the founder of the Wish You Well Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for nationwide literacy. He is also an ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and volunteers for other causes such as the Barbera Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, American Cancer Society, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Currently, Baldacci resides with his family in Fairfax County, Virginia.
